The Yendi Member of Parliament, Farouk Aliu Mahama, has offered an unqualified apology to Accra based Citi FM/Citi TV for the alleged attack on the Northern regional reporter, Mohammed M. Alabiru, during the January parliamentary primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party.

“I believe in media freedom and I recognized the crucial role that the media plays in our democratic society, and on behalf of my constituents, I offer my unreserved apology to your staff and management” he apologized.

The lawmaker in a statement issued on Tuesday (7th May, 2024) further gave an assurance and his commitment to working towards a new chapter to build a strong relationship with the media.

Mr. Farouk Mahama also condemned any form of violence especially against the media and advocated for a peaceful and constructive political environment.

“Throughout my life, I have upheld the belief that violence or anything close to it has no place in our society” he emphasized.

The Yendi MP offered the apology after a meeting held with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the Minister of Information designate, Madam Fati Abubakar, and Director-General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation among other stakeholders to smoke the peace pipe.
