Popular social media personality and businessman Abu Trica has been released from custody after successfully meeting his GH¢30 million bail conditions.
His release comes days after the court granted him bail in connection with an ongoing legal case that has attracted significant public attention.
Papa Kofi Essel, a member of the legal team representing Abu Trica, confirmed that his client had been released after fulfilling the bail requirements.
An Accra High Court granted Abu Trica bail in the sum of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties.
Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, Essel disclosed that Abu Trica secured his release earlier on Friday, May 15, 2026, describing the development as a sign of the country’s commitment to the rule of law and the protection of fundamental human rights.
“He was released today, May 15. Ghana is advancing in recognising the fundamental human rights of citizens, and the rule of law is working,” he said.
Abu Trica was arrested on December 11, 2025, during a joint operation involving Ghanaian security agencies and authorities from the United States over allegations linking him to an international cybercrime syndicate.
Investigators allege that the network carried out romance scams targeting elderly victims in the United States by using fake identities to establish online relationships and allegedly defraud victims of more than $8 million.
Prosecutors say the accused could face charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy — offences that may attract custodial sentences of up to 20 years if proven in a US court.
The matter has been before the Gbese District Court as part of extradition proceedings initiated after a formal request by US authorities seeking his transfer to stand trial.
The case involving Abu Trica has sparked widespread discussion online, with many closely monitoring developments surrounding the proceedings.
