Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya and former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Ms. Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been honoured with the African Giant in Leadership, Governance, and Humanitarian Award for her outstanding contributions to human development and social welfare in Ghana and beyond.
The award, presented by Imperial Leo Limited at the 2025 Africa Corporate Connect held at the British Council in Accra on Friday, 31 October 2025, recognises individuals and institutions whose work has significantly advanced leadership, governance, and humanitarian efforts across borders.
According to the organisers, the Africa Corporate Connect initiative seeks to “identify and publicly recognise worthy counterparts and cross-border partners for enterprises and institutions within and beyond the African continent.”
Ms. Adwoa Safo was celebrated for her remarkable commitment to improving lives through education, healthcare, and social empowerment. As a Member of Parliament, she supported hundreds of children by paying their school fees and providing access to healthcare.
She also spearheaded the construction of clinics and hospitals to expand access to quality medical care within her constituency.
In her capacity as Minister of State in charge of Public Procurement, Ms Adwoa Safo played a pivotal role in initiating and formulating policies that reserved 30 per cent of all government procurement opportunities for women, youth, and persons with disabilities. This milestone advanced inclusivity in public contracting.
Beyond her commitment and dedication to public life, she continues to impact lives. Through the Adwoa Safo Foundation (ASF), founded in 2014, she mainly supports women and children with disabilities, the aged, and widows.
Her immense support for the vulnerable in society through various social interventions and empowerment initiatives has won the hearts of many across the country
As the first woman Deputy Majority Leader and chairperson of the Women Caucus, she spearheaded many economic empowerment initiatives, trainings, and conferences for women parliamentarians both nationally and internationally.
The recognition adds to her growing list of accolades as a leader committed to service, equity, and the empowerment of the less privileged in society.
