The Coalition of Progressive Force of Northern Ghana, organizers of the Miisim (Hardship) Demo in the northern region has postponed the protest to a later date.

The group announced the protest which was originally slated for tomorrow Saturday, August 20, has been rescheduled to September 3, 2022.

“You may have read our press release on the postponement of the mammoth Miisim demonstration that was scheduled to hit the streets of Tamale, tomorrow, 20th August 2022. As one of the most important stakeholders in this civic, nonpartisan political protest, we assembled you this morning to further engage you on the need to postpone the demonstration for two weeks” the group said.

Addressing the press in Tamale on Friday, August 19, the Vice Chairman of the Pressure Group, Dr Ismael Ayanoore explained the intended the protest could not come as scheduled due to sudden demise of the Mion lana, Naa Mahamadu Abdulai III and the Chief of Tugu Yapalsi who was also the NDC Northern Regional Chairman, Alhaji Naa Ibrahim Mobila.

“As you may all have known, even before official pronouncement, the Kingdom of Dagbon is mourning the loss of two illustrious sons who occupied important positions in the circles of leadership in the Kingdom. As citizens and residents of Dagbon, and as custom demands, we must all mourn with the King and people of Dagbon in these times of sadness. DI MIIYA GAN.

“We could never have said to have permission to stage the demonstration on the 20th until we consulted and gained the permission of leading Chiefs of Tamale. The Chiefs we consulted gave us AUGUST their blessings without hesitation. And for that reason, we cannot come out on the streets of Tamale to sing and play songs, beat drums and chant slogans whilst the same Chiefs are in a state of mourning” he stated.

Dr Ismael Ayanoore disclosed the group has duly serve the Police Command with notice of the new date as stipulated by the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491).   

The Vice Chairman has assured its teeming supporters that the group is abandoning the call to bring their voices to the attention of the nation, stressing “We are only postponing in order to respect the customs and tradition of Dagbon, the host state of the demonstration. Therefore, let them get their red attires ready and let them spread the word to all and sundry so that come the d day, it would be red all over Tamale.”

Meanwhile, the Progressive Force of Northern Ghana is organizing the Miisim Demo is register their displeasure about the economic difficulties in the country, arguing the prices of goods and services don’t only change for supporters of one party or the other, they change for us all.
