On the occasion of Labour Day, the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association (PRINPAG) has extended warm felicitations to media practitioners and the broader workforce across Ghana.
In a statement commemorating the day, PRINPAG paid tribute to journalists, designers, videographers, and auxiliary staff who work tirelessly—often behind the scenes—to keep the nation informed.
The association acknowledged the difficult and, at times, precarious conditions under which many media professionals operate, noting that limited resources continue to contrast sharply with the high expectations placed on the industry.
Despite these challenges, PRINPAG commended media workers for their resilience and dedication, describing their service as the foundation of Ghana’s fourth estate.
The association urged practitioners to remain committed to the core values of journalism, emphasising truth, objectivity, fairness, and accountability as essential principles that must guide their work at all times.
The statement also addressed media owners and publishers, calling for urgent improvements in working conditions. PRINPAG stressed that a demoralised workforce cannot sustain a strong and credible industry and encouraged investment in fair remuneration, workplace safety, and professional development.
Beyond the media landscape, PRINPAG appealed to corporate institutions to view the press as a vital partner in national development rather than merely a platform for advertising.
It highlighted the critical role the media plays in strengthening democracy through accountability, public education, and anti-corruption efforts.
The association further urged Corporate Ghana to support the media through ethical advertising practices, timely payments, and meaningful partnerships.
It warned that weakening the media ultimately undermines democratic governance, reinforcing the need for collective responsibility in sustaining a vibrant and independent press.
