The government of Ghana has begun the construction of box culverts on the road connecting Fuo and Taha and its adjoining communities in the Sagnarigu municipality in the northern region.

THE CUSTODIAN has carried out several reports in the last couple of years about the devastations of the inhabitants anytime it rains in the community. Hundreds of the residents always get displaced and also lose properties worth millions of cedis.

However, the ongoing project is an intervention to permanently address the perennial flooding causing havoc to the livelihood of the people.

THE CUSTODIAN has gathered that the project is a variation of the over 5kilometers ongoing road construction works around the Global Dream Hotel area and parts of the Fuo community.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Sagnarigu, Mr. Mohammed Yakubu Ahmed, on Tuesday (February 21, 2023) paid a working visit to the site to monitor and also obtain firsthand information on the progress of work.

Mr. Ahmed Najib Musah, the contractor of INSAAN Company Limited working on the project in an interview said they are constructing three giant box culverts comprising a 3 by 3meters, 2 by 3meters and 1 by 3meters to contain the large volumes of water passing through the community.

“Based on the complaints we have picked from the community; we believe the ones we constructing in addition to the existing one will help to eradicate the problem. We have so far spent about five weeks and we’re hopeful in about two weeks we should be able to finish everything but adding to the cureness of the project we should be able to finish everything in about month time for people to starting using it again” he noted.

Meanwhile, the Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Mohammed Yakubu Ahmed, for his part said he was satisfied with the progress of work and commended the Akufo-Addo government for such investment to safeguard lives and properties.

According to the MCE, the government is poised to get everybody satisfied in terms of development in their communities.

“We’ve been experiencing perennial flooding for so many years and this particular road is of economic importance because the Gbalahi landfill site and other villages along this stretch and most of the village dwellers ply their trade at the Tamale central market.”

Responding to critics of the government who argues there is so much borrowing, the Sagnarigu MCE noted this is the manifestation of the borrowing stressing the monies are used for useful projects such as this but did not also mince words to plead with the people to have patience with the President as they work to improve the economy and living standards of Ghanaians.
