Lariba Zuweira Abudu, Gender Minister-designate

The Member of Parliament for Walewale constituency in the North East Region, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, has announced plans to register 10,000 people onto the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, in the coming days.

According to the legislator, officials of the NHIS will soon visit various communities in the constituency in collaboration with the assembly members to register all beneficiaries.  

The figure includes individuals whose membership on the health insurance scheme is due for renewal but they have not been able to incur the cost.

“I have provided funds for the Health Insurance to go round and register everybody in the constituency – those who will be registering for the first time as well as those who will renew their cards. You can also visit the health insurance office and they will attend to you” she stated.

The lawmaker who doubles as the Minister designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection (GCSP) in an interview said the intervention is to enable the people have access to quality healthcare.

Hajia Lariba Abudu noted that as the representative of the people of Walewale in Parliament, she will continue to work tirelessly to improve the socioeconomic conditions of her constituents.

“You have entrusted your mandate with me to represent you in Parliament and I will not disappoint you. We have started working and will continue to work more. I want everybody to benefit in the constituency.”

She added in due time, “I will come round for everybody to know the progress of work we have started across the constituency and interact with you”.

The MP in 2021 distributed over six hundred hampers and a cash amount to widows in the constituency as part efforts to ameliorate the plight of the vulnerable women.

She also announced the establishment of an endowment fund to cater for the welfare of these women, explaining the fund will also provide startup capital for them who intend to go into micro and small scale businesses.
