Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA) has made a patriotic call to the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be wary of their comments now so they would not be used against the party someday, and pleaded with them to protect the party.
“We have a party to protect. Let us put down all the bitterness; let’s put down all the anger and come together as one.
“Let us be careful about what we say about each other and about our party so that such words are not used against us during general elections,” COKA urged.
The former Afigya Kwabre South Constituency Chairman made the call when he addressed a Constituency Chairmen Conference in the Ashanti Region on Saturday.
He outlined all the reasons that make it important for party members to rise, adding that all party members must work to protect the NPP and help rebrand it for the 2028 election.
The conference on the theme “Building momentum: the role of NPP Constituency Chairmen in uplifting the party towards 2028 and beyond” was aimed at finding ways to reform the party and forge a strong path towards 2028.
The former chairman, while making his remarks as keynote speaker, talked about party unity, party members holding on to the right virtues, and, most of all, the leaders (executives) building the right portfolios to help build the party and strengthen it in the long run.
“Try to help each other because together we stand and divided we fall. Brothers and sisters, we need to set an agenda, hold discussions, and ensure all executives and members participate effectively in the rebuilding of our party. You need to uphold ethical standards, ensure compliance with policies, promote good party governance practices, and ensure that the party constitution is respected and followed,” COKA further urged.
Mr Odeneho Kwaku Appiah also made an appeal to the constituency chairpersons to uphold the party’s integrity. “Distinguished chairpersons of our great party, your aim is to make the party attractive to voters. Are you doing that? he quizzed.
COKA added that, “We cannot force the voters to choose NPP. What we say and do will attract voters. Unity, highlights on teamwork, collaboration, and mutual support are what will achieve shared objectives.”
In proposing unity, the former constituency chairman for many years talked about how individual differences can disrupt the party and called on the NPP supporters to accept opposing views.
“All who feel wronged by others should forgive and forget. We can never be the same. I may be a Muslim and you may be a Christian; I may be poor and you may be rich, but all should not matter. Deep down us, we all love our party, hoping and praying that we come back to power in 2028. So let’s unite as brothers and sisters because that is what we are. if someone has wronged you, I want you to learn to forgive.
“Let’s try to solve our differences peacefully; for all you know, that person has no clue what he or she has done to you,” he added.
In supporting opposing views, COKA called on members to accept the views of their brethren.
“No civilised society will have an issue with those with dissenting views; indeed, democracy should have room for dissenting views. In any democratic society, the majority position carries the day. It is true that the truth must always be told, but it is not every truth that needs expression.
“The fight is not with ourselves, so we shall move forward with God’s direction towards the time when we grow in love and integrity to rebuild and strategise for the future,” he emphasised.
