Man in handcuffs

An intelligence operation by the Ghana Police Service has led to the arrest of an Inspector of Police at the Nima Police station.

The thecustodianonline.com has learnt that Inspector Abednego Bortieh of Nima Police station has been arrested for his involvement in robbing an Indian business man in Accra.

According to information gathered, on 21st July, 2023 at 1600 hours, Girish Saohwani, an Indian accompanied by Albert Mensah came to the RCID/AR and reported that on 19/07/2023 at about 0800 hours, whilst they were at home at Osu with his three other Indian brothers, four suspects including two females and two males with one of the male suspects in Police uniform, forcibly entered their room and accused them of doing illegal business in Ghana.

The suspects threatened the victims and forcibly collected their GHC700,000, $56,450 USD, one IPhone 12pro max, two IPhone 11, one IPhone 7, a Samsung phone, one Hp laptop, a Dell laptop and four traveling passports from their room and drove away in a Nissan Sentra saloon.
Sources within the police indicated that following the incident, the suspects were tracked and Inspector Abednego Bortieh of Nima Police station, was arrested in connection of the case.

During interrogation, the Inspector admitted the offence and mentioned his civilian accomplices as Francis Omari, an ICT tutor at IPMC, Helena Tetteh and one other.

Subsequently, the lnspector’s room was searched and GHC185,105 and $22,500 were retrieved.
He is in custody assisting the Police to apprehend his accomplices.
