The campaign of New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has gained significant momentum with a resounding success as party delegates in Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions root for the former Vice President.
Dr Bawumia is concluding the campaign tour of the three regions today, signalling a major consolidation of support in a crucial electoral belt ahead of the NPP’s presidential primary on 31st January, 2026.
Key constituency chairmen and polling station executives, who form the backbone of the delegate pool, were seen enthusiastically pledging their support for Dr Bawumia.
“Dr. Bawumia didn’t come here with empty promises. He came with a record we can point to and a vision we believe in.
“His ‘Our Journey Together’ theme resonates because it acknowledges our role in the party’s past successes and invites us to be architects of its future victory. The delegates are convinced,” Mr David Boakye, Regional Secretary for Bono East Region stated.
The tour also secured crucial endorsements from sitting MPs and other influential regional figures, who praised Dr. Bawumia’s humility, intellect, and his appeal across various demographic groups.
Former Vice President Bawumia’s series of town hall meetings and delegate interactions, dubbed the “Our Journey Together,” have been designed to foster a spirit of unity, inclusiveness and partnership.
The overwhelming support from delegates, party faithful, and traditional leaders during the tour suggests the message has struck a powerful chord with Dr Bawumia, effectively translating his national vision into local resonance.
“This tour was not about a leader speaking to followers; it was about a partner engaging with stakeholders on the next phase of our shared journey.
“The message is clear: we have built a foundation of digitalisation and economic resilience together, and now we must build upon it for a more prosperous future for every Ghanaian, from the cocoa farms of Ahafo to the trading hubs of Bono East,” Dr Bawumia stated at a massive rally in Sunyani.
The strategic importance of the three regions, often referred to as the “food basket” and a key swing zone, is not lost on political observers.
The warm reception of Dr Bawumia’s campaign is seen as a critical step in building a winning national coalition.
According to the Chairman of the Communications Committee of the Bawumia campaign, Nana Akomea, the positive energy and concrete pledges of support gathered during the tour have solidified internal confidence.
“The Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions have sent a clear message.
“They have embraced the vision and are ready to walk the journey together, all the way to the ballot box in January,” he stated.
Political pundits also believe that the resounding success in these crucial regions, often a key battleground in party primaries, creates a powerful bandwagon effect that will be difficult for his opponents to counter.
“This was more than a campaign tour; it was a demonstration of organisational strength and political momentum.
“By solidifying his support in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions, Dr Bawumia has sent a powerful signal to delegates in other regions that his victory is inevitable. In internal party politics, perception is everything, and the perception now is that this race is his to lose,” Mr Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, MP for Techiman South, reiterated.
With the delegate-rich Ashanti Region already showing strong support for Dr Bawumia in earlier polls, and now the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo belts falling into place, the campaign of the former Vice President has every reason to declare its latest strategic objective as accomplished.
Dr Bawumia continues his campaign not just as a frontrunner in polls, but as the undeniable focal point of the race, leaving his rivals with a dramatically steeper climb to the flagbearership.
