Mr Haruna Mohammed - Deputy National General Secretary of the NPP

The youth of the governing New Patriotic Party in the northern region have been urged to shy away from misconstruing opinions to facts in the wake strict guidelines given by the party leadership ahead of its internal elections particularly the much-anticipated presidential race in 2023.

According to Haruna Mohammed, a National Deputy Director of Communications of the NPP, this will offer the public and social media users the opportunity to appreciate the germane issues within the NPP to enable them make decisive decisions and informed opinions about the party.

“Much as I respect other people’s views on party matters, most especially, relative to National decisions on how to regulate our internal party competitions, it’s good to correct this record straight” he said.

“Reference has always been made to Chairman Samba’s declaration for Dr Bawumia far away in the Upper East Region during Mr Latif Solomon’s funeral which has received a lot of commentaries from party faithful. In the first place, Chairman Samba made those declarations on the 27th June, 2021, which was a Sunday at Bongo in the Upper East Region.

“Secondly, the National Council of our party took the decision on Tuesday 27th July 2021 and issued same under the hand of the General Secretary to introduce the code of conduct under the guidance of Article 18 of our party’s constitution” Mr Haruna Mohammed pointed out.

The NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Mohammed Baantima Samba, on behalf of the entire regional executive setup, last year publicly declared support for the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to lead the governing party into the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana.

He said the Vice President has demonstrated his qualities and capabilities to lead the party to break the 8 year governance string in the country.

Consequent to the declaration, a section of the party’s base has subjected the businessman cum politician to intense criticisms, notably, sympathizers of Trade Minister, Alan Kojo Kyeremanten, who have accused the latter of violating the code of conduct outlined by the National Council of the NPP under Article 18 of the party’s constitution to regulate the conduct prospective candidates and their assigns.

However, in a Facebook post, Mr Haruna Mohammed, who is also the Director of Youth Employment Agency in the northern region maintained the impression should not be created as though the Chairman disrespected any rule of the party as at the time of his pronouncement in the Upper East region.

“Much as you disagree with him on some issues that is clouded in your different opinion to his style of Leadership, you must not let it look like he flagrantly disrespected any rule which never existed as at that time he made those pronouncements in Bongo.”

“I will edge colleagues to always separate facts from our opinions about others so as to give our readers the clearer view to make decisive decisions and also form their own opinions. Party first and so shall it be. It’s our responsibility to set the record and put back the dignity to party and its Leadership” he admonished.
